Seasons and implications when choosing a new house:
“People don't notice whether is winter or summer when they are happy.” - Anton Chekhov
Every season comes with different housing options and listings. Check out the pros and cons of moving in each season and which season is the best for you to buy a house!
Winter
Let's be honest, who would like to pack, clean, carry and unpack in the middle of a snow storm? Nobody! But, would you make the effort to move during winter so you are able to have more negotiation power and a significant down pricing on the house you are looking for? Now we are talking! The winter time makes us want to hibernate like bears, reason why there are not a lot of buyers out there during the winter. What happens when there is more house supply than demand is that the housing prices will drop significantly, so some buyers become more motivated. It would be a good idea to move during winter if you want to save some money. So get your pre-approval during the end of the summer and take advantage of the winter and fall housing market prices.
Spring
During spring, sellers are more motivated to list their houses as they are easier to clean and also look better. If you want to buy a house and have lots of options to choose from, do it during Spring. This is the season with the highest amounts of listings and real estate activity. On the other hand, if you have kids attending to school you will not want to interrupt their academic life by moving during spring... you might find a way to manage it though!
Summer
Although summer is not as busy as spring, if you would like an excellent weather to house hunt and attend open houses with BBQ's included then move during summer! It is also great if you have kids as you will not have to interrupt their school in order to move. You can even throw a good patio party after for those who helped you!
Conclusion is: Depending on what you are looking for, one season might benefit you more than the other but it is up to you to decide and make a pros vs cons list on which season is better for your home buying plans.
